ACT: Chizuru Irwin

Updated: Nov 17, 2020

What is a passage from Nichiren Daishonin or the three Presidents that encourages you through difficulty?

Chizuru:  The Gosho (Writings of Nichiren Daishonin) says "Winter never fails to turn into Spring". I have been practising for 60 years and for all the obstacles I’ve experienced, I have never given up.

Sensei's (President Ikeda) guidance is that it is easy to drive when the road is clear, but it won’t improve your skills as a driver. This holds true with our practice too. Unless obstacles challenge you at every turn you cannot change your destiny for the better.

What is your prime point of faith, and how have you maintained your seeking spirit to continue to encourage members?

Chizuru: When confronted with fundamental darkness I am able to overcome that through chanting. I use this approach, or philosophy, to encourage existing members and new members.

What would you like to share with the youth who are going to shoulder the future of kosen-rufu?

Chizuru: Nowadays youth are very clever and have lots of knowledge, and they have the technical skills to access even more. The most important thing for them is to seek President Ikeda’s guidance and in this way they can gain more wisdom.

I would encourage them to study the Human Revolution novel as well as all of Sensei’s many experiences, and in that way they can learn how to take responsibility for their actions and contribute to SGIA’s activities that will enhance SGI development in Australia and beyond into the future.
