South Australia: Vicky & Yoji Yagi

Updated: Nov 17, 2020

Let's enjoy the reflections of Vicky and Yoji Yagi, pioneer SGIA members who were at the forefront of the practice in Adelaide in the late 1980s.

Vicky Yagi started practising Nichiren Buddhism in London in 1978 when she was 18 and moved to Japan in 1982 to marry Yoji, where she stayed for 6 years before coming to Australia in 1988. She has been practising in Adelaide ever since.

Yoji Yagi, her husband, started practising Nichiren Buddhism in 1977 in London where they both met. At that time, the SGI movement in London was still in its infancy. Similarly when Vicky and Yoji moved to Adelaide in 1988, the SGI movement was also in the early stages, and so Vicky and Yoji are pioneers in both the practice in London and South Australia! Given that there has been such a big change since the old days, both Vicky and Yoji are taking the opportunity to reflect on their Buddhist practice and share what it was like at that time.
